Many people are trying to transform SD video to HD. ReSizer 2.1 helps you do that, providing high-quality scaling and de-interlacing. Most SD footage has fields. To get the highest quality upconversion, it’s necessary to de-interlace the footage before upconverting.
Both After Effects and FCP have de-interlacing built-in. These tools work well, but basically just blend the fields together. Footage that has small details, such as thin lines or text, can look poor with this method. ReSizer gives you a de-interlacer that uses motion estimation to provide a cleaner way of combining fields. The fields are analyzed and then combined based on the analysis. This takes longer to process (and to render) than the built-in methods, so it’s useful to see if the built-in methods provide adequate results before using ReSizer’s de-interlacer.
To use ReSizer, create a new solid and apply ReSizer to it. Drop the footage you want to resize into the same comp, but make it invisible. You don’t want to apply ReSizer directly to the footage, as After Effects may try to scale it (depending on your project settings) and reduce the quality of ReSizer’s results.
Once ReSizer is applied to the Solid, tell ReSizer which piece of footage you want to use. Then go down to the de-Interlace section and select whether the footage is upper or lower field first. This should give you a progressive frame that you can now scale up knowing it’ll look great.
