If you’ve seen Live Free or Die Hard — or even if you’ve just seen the trailers, which emphasize the film’s trademark outlandish action sequences — you may think of the various stunts, including the “money shot” involving a car tumbling through the air and smashing into the hoods of two more cars traveling on the ground, as a veritable CG-fest. But you’d be wrong.

You guys did a tremendous job with the movie. Thank you so much for sharing the amazing process that was used to create it. Keep up the good work.

Bravo to Wiseman and the other powers-that-be who determined that real-world action is the standard to reach for. One of my favorite films is Ronin, and the tension in the action/driving scenes are that much more amazing because they're real stunts -- real physics. In this over-CGI'd world, it's nice to see someone going back to old-school techniques, and using CGI only where it's necessary (and even then, exhibiting restraint). Great article. Thanks StudioDaily.

The evacuation shot was the only one I sat in the theatre and thought, "Ah HAH! CGI! They are walking too perfectly!"
But, I also thought that the "circus stunts" by the hitman in the beginning of the film was CGI as well.
All in all however, a great job!

I can\'t wait until I see the movie and see the results of all these talanted artist come together and make me believe what I\'m seeing so I have a death grip on my armrests in the movie theater, sitting on the edge of my seat, gettig ready to jump out of the way! That\'s what I call movie making!

While the effects were exceptional, and I LOVE the fact that stunts were used in most cases instead of effects, I thought the ADR was too far off for me. It was distracting. I also wanted to see more Baltimore and Woodlawn instead of the close-ups. That said, overall I was very happy with the end product. Thanks for the entertainment!!!

Yeay for more "real" stunts and less CGI! Just one note from all of us classic/antique car hobbiests: It's okay to use CGI to damage old cars instead of really doing it :-) There are a good number of us air-cooled Volkswagen enthusiasts who gasped "NO!" when we found out a Type 3 (the VW Squareback) was part of the carnage in one of the scenes. Unlike the ubiquitous VW Bug, there aren't as many of those classics around :-(
