The Olympus SH-880TM Octavision camera shoots an eight-megapixel 4:2:2 "Quad HD" picture at 3840×2160 pixels and more than 1600 TV lines of resolution. It uses four 2/3-inch two-megapixel CCDs with a Bayer-style half-pixel offset to get the output resolution. What's missing? There's no optical viewfinder. If there aren't a lot of users who need to shoot this kind of imagery today, Olympus also notes that downconverting the camera's output to standard HD can offer a crisper image than shooting straight HD. Olympus also introduced the SH-880TR, a hard-disk recorder that can hold 60 minutes of footage. Rentals have already started in Japan, and Olympus hopes the ASC will test the camera this year.
