In-Camera Light Painting for BMW

In the new spot for BMW, the directorial duo of Nick Thornton-Jones & Warren Du Preez from production company Wanted Films transformed their signature style of painting with light that has garnered them acclaim in the print world into the realm of motion pictures, a move that was fraught with creative and technical challenges.

Stunning spot, great mix of old fashion tricks (with elements that are remeniscent of John Whitney and Saul Bass' motion control light effects) and modern technology.

The BMW logo in the end isn't round, looks like the video hasn't been converted to square pix.

Unfortunately the whole thing has been achieved by digital effects - even after knowing that it´s shot for real the ad lacks experimentation that goes beyond things you can do in 3-D. One word: boring

True magicians with a camera and true artist have mastered manipultation of light with there subject. This solidifies them as truely magical artist.
