Randall Dark Productions

Back in 1986, Randall P. Dark was given the opportunity to view High Definition in Toronto for the first time and knew it was the future of images. A few short years later after working on the High Definition production of Chasing Rainbows for CBC, he founded HD Vision in New York City and Dallas. The company’s mandate was to specialize in the growth of High Definition, launching Dark into a position of technological and creative visionary. An undisputed pioneer in the emerging industry, Randall was the co-founder and creative force behind HD Vision Studios in Los Angeles. He is a member of the Television Arts and Sciences Academy and is one of a select few members of the Consumer Electronics Association’s Academy of Digital Pioneers, a group recognized for their efforts implementing Digital Television in the United States. Dark also received one of the International Electronic Cinema Festival's top honors: The Pioneer Award, bestowed in recognition of extraordinary contributions to the success of HDTV. Over the years, Randall has also been the cover story for many industry magazines.

Recognized globally as an expert in emerging technologies, Randall has spoken to audiences at events including: MIPCOM, CASBAA-Hong Kong, Tokyo International Film Festival, Banff World Television Festival, National Association of Broadcaster's Convention, International Electronic Cinema Festival, Infocomm, Consumer Electronic Show, HDExpo, World Television Forum, creaTVty Zurich, Canadian Association of Broadcasters Convention, Hollywood Post Alliance, New York State Bar Association, Bear Stearns Media Conference and NATPE. Randall recently gave a Key Note address at the HD Summit in Los Angeles and the Production Innovations Forum in Toronto, Canada

Dark and/or his companies have been involved in over 3000 HD projects including feature films, documentaries, commercials, music videos, corporate presentations, product launches and live events.



GIL HUBBS, ASC

Gil Hubbs, ASC, has been a Director of Photography for over thirty years shooting documentaries, commercials, theatrical and television films and television comedies.

His documentaries include films for David Wolper, the BBC and the Academy Award winning short: THE MAGIC MACHINES. He has shot over twenty movies for television and theatrical features including THIS IS ELVIS and ENTER THE DRAGON.

Gil’s work in television comedies includes the entire 247 episodes of MURPHY BROWN, BETTE and MY BIG FAT GREEK LIFE.

Gil has been shooting stock footage in high definition for over four years. Gil is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The International Cinematographers Guild and the American Society of Cinematographers.



Jan Ross

BBC Motion Gallery, senior vice president

As SVP of BBC Motion Gallery, the footage licensing arm of BBC Wordwide, Jan Ross manages all aspects of sales, marketing and content licensing for the Americas. Joining BBC Worldwide in 2002, first as a consultant and then running the BBC Motion Gallery operations for North America, Jan was responsible for launching the BBC Motion Gallery website in 2004, as well as establishing key strategic partnerships with blue chip companies such as Apple Computer.

Prior to joining BBC Motion Gallery, Jan was Executive Director of Blacklight Films from 2000 - 2002 and CEO of Getty Images’motion division, then called Energy Film, from 1997 - 2000. She also served as an Executive Officer of Getty Images, a publicly traded company, and as a member of the Senior Management Team of GettyOne, the professional creative channel of the company. During her tenure, Jan launched a breakthrough web site called energyfilm.com, establishing best practice for the film/digital video operations with asset management of more than 12,000 hours of content.

Jan’s career began in 1976 when she co-founded the acclaimed Energy Film Library, which, over the course of 20-years, she built into one of the world’s most successful film production and library businesses. She led the global expansion of the company with the establishment of an independent licensee distribution network in 10 major cities throughout the world, and managed the acquisition of three competitive collections. Jan also orchestrated the sale of Energy Film Library to Getty Images, which formed the initial core of their vast stock footage offering.



Paula Lumbard

FootageBank HD and footagehead Royalty Free, founder/president

FootageBank HD was founded by industry icon Paula Lumbard who anticipated the coming demand for HD motion content and created the first stock footage company specializing in HD-native content. FootageBank HD reflects her experience and knowledge that licensing motion images needs to be easy, fun, and reasonably priced. FootageBank HD provides the one-on-one customer service that Lumbard is known for throughout the industry.

Lumbard’s career spans more than 20 years in content licensing and prior to that Lumbard spent several years producing special effects for features films and television. In 1985 she founded her first company Film Bank which established her as a leader and independent thinker in the independent archive business.

Paula is a graduate of the University of Washington, has two masters degrees (Fine Arts, Psychology) and was a member of the Emmy Award winning team that created the special effects for the classic TV film “The Day After.” Lumbard serves on the Board of Directors of Venice Neighborhood Arts, a non profit organization whose mission is providing low income youths in the Los Angeles area with free classes in media arts.
